In addition, each Music Education major must complete the following:

(a) 2 semester hours in the primary (principal) applied music area each semester for a minimum of 10 semester hours (one semester at the 3000 level is required) 10 sh

(b) successful completion of the adjudicated degree recital (MUS 0030)

(c) ensemble from MUS 1010, MUS 1051, MUS 1030, MUS 1050, and MUS 1020 7 sh

  • All majors must complete one of these ensembles outside of the primary instrument
  • All music education majors must take three semester hours of MUS 1051, University Chorale, and one of these hours must be a concurrent enrollment in MUS 3531 Choral Methods and Literature, or MUS 3538 Conducting
  • In addition, students whose primary instrument is wind or percussion must complete two semesters of MUS 1020 (Wind and percussion majors must complete two semesters of MUS 1020; all majors must complete one of these ensembles outside of major instrument/voice)

(d) Keyboard proficiency

(e) MUS 0010 Departmental Recital each semester of residency as a Music Education major

In addition, vocal majors must take MUS 2510 Diction for Singers I and MUS 2511 Diction for Singers II.

MUS 0030 Degree Recital is a performance on the primary instrument. The requirements are governed by a state approved rubric and adjudicated by a faculty committee. Well- researched (with substantial documentation of reputable sources, well-written program notes are part of the requirement.
