ARB 1700 A Arab World Film/Current Events

Exploring the Arab World Through Film and Current Events" The Arab World is a region that has been marked by paradoxes: wealth, poverty, privilege, suffering, peace agreements, conflicts, and war.  This course aims to explore the region through film and current events.  Documentaries and movies provide context to important issues, and media outlets bring to light matters that dominate public opinion.  This course will use historic, political, economic, and cultural contexts to analyze events and perceptions and better understand them. The course will also examine current events from the perspective of Western media compared to that of Arab media outlets.  It is expected that by the end of the course, students will also gain a better understanding of the diversity that exists within the countries/regions of the Arab World.  This course will be taught in English and there are no pre-requisites for it. Does not count toward World Language Proficiency requirement.
