ARH 3701 A Digital Art History
Futuristic technologies are changing the way we make sense of and present information but it might surprise you to learn that cutting-edge tech can also be used to learn about the past! In this course we will learn to use digital tools to create and communicate new understandings of buildings, objects, images, texts, places, and concepts in order to enrich our understanding of history. Students from all majors are welcome; we will focus on applying these techniques to the study of the past, but the lessons reach far and wide. Topics will range from data recording and analysis; data management and preservation; online mapping; communication, presentation, and publishing; technology and museums; and theoretical and ethical issues surrounding digital data and public scholarship.
