CHM 1710 A Critical Concepts in Chemistry
Chemistry is a major part of your everyday life. It impacts the food you eat, clothes you wear, how you get around, and many other aspects of your daily routine. Not only does chemistry play a critical role in these everyday things, but it also serves as a link to many other scientific disciplines like mathematics, physics, and biology among others. Consequently, it is important for all students to have a general knowledge of chemistry and possess a fundamental understanding of chemical concepts. This course aims to emphasis several anchoring concepts in general chemistry, like Atomic Theory, Thermodynamics, and Kinetics, as well as the mathematical processes necessary to master these big ideas. Students will explore some of the many ways chemistry impacts everyday life through these foundational areas to establish enduring understanding within the discipline. Students will also acquire the knowledge to measure and analyze data using excel. The goal in emphasizing these anchoring chemical concepts is to prepare students who desire to take additional chemistry courses with the requisite knowledge necessary for successful completion of chemistry courses.
