What factors influence students' success in second language learning? How important are individual differences like motivation, musical ability, and social networks? Is study abroad really the best way to become fluent? How effective are phone applications as tools for learning a second language? This course explores the myths and realities of adult second language learning with a special focus on Spanish and English. In addition to providing students with a context to understand their own strengths and weaknesses as learners, we will examine key theories and principles in the field of language acquisition, the brain science behind it, and how learners can increase their ultimate attainment regardless of their current level.
