IDS 224 DISARMING INJUSTICE: NONVIOLENCE AND THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT
In this course, we will examine how civil rights leaders and activists used the theories and tactics of nonviolence to challenge the institutions of segregation in the American South. The course will culminate in travel to sites important to the movement in Atlanta, Montgomery, Birmingham, and Selma. Counts toward Civilization or Society requirement. Counts toward African and African-American Studies and Poverty and Social Justice minors.
