Residency Requirement
Elon University has a two-year residency requirement. All first- and second-year students are required to live on campus except those who are living with a legal guardian, nontraditional students and transfer students who have been out of high school one year or more. Priority for housing assignment is based on the date the enrollment deposit is received by Elon.
In order to reside in university housing, a student must be 18 years of age within his or her first semester of enrollment. A student who will be 17 years of age at the time of matriculation, and will not reach 18 years of age within the first semester of enrollment, will be required to interview with university officials to determine housing eligibility.
Any student younger than 17 years of age will not be permitted to live on campus, and if admitted to the university, must be prepared to be a commuter student residing with a parent or legal guardian until he or she meets the age requirement for university residency.
