HSS 116 AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE AND DEAF CULTURE II
American Sign Language/Deaf Culture II is designed to build on the skills and knowledge of a beginning American Sign Language/Deaf Culture course. Students will add to their introductory knowledge of Deaf Culture by examining current events of linguistic and cultural significance to the Deaf Community, researching a selected topic of special interest, and exploring the evolving role of Deaf people in American families and society. Students will further develop ASL concept sign vocabulary and the use of advanced ASL grammatical features. Emphasis will be placed on the appropriate use of signs and finger-spelling as they occur within the local Deaf community, with special attention toward common usage practices in both conversational and frozen registers.
