For every artistic event, much of the work to make it successful is hidden. Arts administrators work behind the scenes to make sure artists keep creating and the public keeps appreciating art of every kind. Arts administrators provide the leadership to guide arts programs that range from finger-painting to digital media; from ballet to belly dance; from musical theaters in the bright lights of Broadway to traveling companies taking theater productions across the country; and from hip-hop to opera. The Arts Administration major is built on a multidisciplinary approach, combining a strong core rooted in arts administration approaches to management, legal issues, and marketing, with a management/business component, and a concentration in the student’s chosen area (i.e. art and art history, music, or performing arts). Students graduating with this major are well-prepared through the coursework and their internship experiences to enter the professional artistic field and employ their expertise to bring artistic events to the public. Similarly, they may also choose to enter a graduate program in Arts Administration (or related field) to hone their skills and seek more specialized positions within the arts administration profession.
The degree is comprised of three major components: 1) specific courses in Arts Administration, 2) managerial courses taken from the Love School of Business and the Department of English, and 3) a disciplinary specific concentration taken from Art and Art History, Music or Performing Arts. The program could be completed with a minimum of 60 semester hours and a maximum of 66 semester hours: 20 semester hours in the Arts Administration component, 20 semester hours in the Management component, and 20-26 semester hours depending upon the which minor students select in Art and Art History, Music, or Performing Arts.
A Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Arts Administration requires the completion of the Elon Core Curriculum as well as the Major Requirements listed below.

Disciplinary Concentration:
Students are required to complete a concentration in an arts discipline. Completing the requirements of any majors or minors offered in the departments of Art & Art History, Music or Performing Arts would fulfill the concentration requirement. (Semester hours range from 20-26 for the minors included.)

Experiential Learning Requirement (2 Units required)
Included in experiential learning are study abroad, research, service-learning, leadership, internships, (including co-ops, teaching, and practicum), or other courses or experiences with ELR designation.
World Language Requirement
Students must meet one of the following: (a)complete a language course numbered 122 or higher at Elon, or receive transfer or study abroad credit for the same; (b) place into a language course numbered 200 or above upon arriving at Elon, using a department of world languages approved placement instrument; (c) score a 4 or 5 on an AP language exam or similar exam. Each student must take the language placement test by October 1 of his or her first full year at Elon. Students are allowed two tries; the higher score is counted. That score stands and may not be repeated by later testing. Consideration for Phi Beta Kappa membership requires the completion of a 222-level world language course or placement beyond that level.
Studies in the Arts and Sciences
Students must fulfill the requirements in each of the following categories.
Transfer students with at least 18 s.h. of transfer credit must complete 32 hours total in Studies in the Arts & Sciences, but may have as few as 7 hours in one or more of the four Studies in the Arts & Sciences areas.

Eight hours chosen from at least two of the following: literature (in English or world languages), philosophy, and fine arts (art, dance, music, music theatre, and theatre). At least one course must be literature.
