COR 320 CROSS-CULTURAL EXCHANGES OF THE ATLANTIC WORLD

This course will examine cross-cultural exchanges that occurred in the Atlantic World (Europe, Africa, and the Americas) between the years of 1492 to 1821. We will explore exchanges between different groups of peoples and societies, broadening our understanding of not only what the Atlantic World encompasses and represents but also the new and changing identities, institutions, and ideologies that resulted from European contact with Africa and the Americas. Central to the course is the analysis of the complex and multi-directional exchanges between these vastly different peoples and culture(s) and their direct relation to the development of early modern imperial societies.
