COR 414 THE COLD WAR AND AMERICAN POPULAR CULTURE
There is little debate about the fact that anticommunism was a crucial force in twentieth-century American society, fueling a Cold War against the Soviet Union and its allies and periodically disrupting domestic politics and society through a series of “Red Scares.” In this course, we will go beyond politics and foreign policy, using television, films, and popular fiction during the period from the end of World War II through the middle of the 1960s to explore how the Cold War influenced American popular culture. This course is writing intensive. Open to students in the third or fourth year of study.
