MUS 375 ADVANCED VOCAL PEDAGOGY
In this course students will build on vocal pedagogy techniques and concepts learned in
MUS 367 (Vocal Pedagogy). Much research has been done in the last 10-15 years focusing on the athleticism of singing. This course will emphasize current pedagogical research as it pertains to the classical and non-classical singer. We will discuss vocal conditioning and motor learning principles as they apply to the voice and the value of cross-training the voice. We will have hands-on experience for students giving them the opportunity to teach each other in front of the class and asking them to devise strategies for developing and teaching healthy vocal technique in a variety of styles. Appropriate repertoire for different voice types for all styles will be discussed. We will also learn about vocal health and how to most efficiently care for the voice in order to prevent vocal disorders and pathologies. Pre-requisite:
