ENG 255 L YA LITERATURE IN A DIVERSE AMERICA

Focusing exclusively on the diversity of experiences offered by 21st century American voices, this course will examine a variety of YA literature genres, including the novel, novel-in-verse, graphic novels, fantasy, short stories, and film. Each piece will explore young adults navigating complexities generated by culture, gender, religion, ethnicity, and socio-economic groups. Authors may include Elizabeth Acevedo, Kwame Alexander, S.K. Ali, David Leviathan, John Lewis, Nnedi Okorafor, Erika Sànchez, Renee Watson, and Gene Yuen Lang. Films will include both documentary pieces and major studio releases. Please note, this course is reading intensive, especially for Winter Term.
