COR 395 MASK

Mask has been used in ritual, performance and protest in a multitude of times and places throughout human history.  This class will explore ways of asking and exploring questions about masks from many cultures including Transformation masks from the Pacific Northwest, Commedia dell Arte masks from Renaissance Italy and the Guy Fawkes mask used by Anonymous.  We will explore issues around identity, transformation, ethics, creativity and storytelling as well as issues raised by the students’ Core backgrounds (which can introduce business, education, political science or any other field). The multimedia capstone project will engage your learning from other Core classes to create a student-directed exploration and product that can serve your future goals.  The course is writing intensive and will approach both visual and written texts. Open to students in the third or fourth year of study.
