POL 210 INTRODUCTION TO THE STUDY OF LAW
An introduction to the American legal system and the study of law in the United States. The course will cover numerous topics including: the role of the courts, legislature and administrative agencies in the legal system; major substantive areas of law; legal reasoning, legal writing, and legal research; and appellate advocacy. Students will be exposed to much of the subject matter traditionally taught during the first year of law school as well as some upper-level courses. In addition to acquiring basic legal knowledge and skills, students should gain valuable insight into whether they want to attend law school and enter the legal profession. For those students who do ultimately attend law school, the course should prove beneficial in their transition from undergraduate to professional study.
