SPN 453 REALISMO MAGICO OR REAL MARAVILLOSO
Realismo mágico (magical realism) or lo real maravilloso americano (marvelous American reality) are terms used to describe the cultural production of certain twentieth-century Latin American writers. Magical realists such as Cuban Alejo Carpentier posit a theory of lo real maravilloso americano portraying a Latin American continent. Through the lens of magical realism we will explore identity and how magical realist techniques function to subvert systems of power.
