Elon University Mission Statement

Elon University embraces its founder's vision of an academic community that transforms mind, body, and spirit and encourages freedom of thought and liberty of conscience.

To fulfill this vision, Elon University acts upon these commitments:

  • We nurture a rich intellectual community characterized by active student engagement with a faculty dedicated to excellent teaching and scholarly accomplishment.

  • We provide a dynamic and challenging undergraduate curriculum grounded in the traditional liberal arts and sciences and complemented by distinctive professional and graduate programs.

  • We integrate learning across the disciplines and put knowledge into practice, thus preparing students to be global citizens and informed leaders motivated by concern for the common good.

  • We foster respect for human differences, passion for a life of learning, personal integrity and an ethic of work and service.

Statement of Non-Discrimination

The university does not discriminate on the basis of age, race, color, creed, sex, national or ethnic origin, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or veteran’s status in the recruitment and admission of students, the recruitment and employment of faculty and staff, or the operation of any of its programs.

Elon seeks to foster a pluralistic community based on shared experiences. As a holistic learning environment in a global community, Elon University values diverse backgrounds and ideas, the exchange of diverse perspectives, and learning about and with those different from ourselves. Respecting diversity and difference at Elon means including and appreciating individual members of the community in order to improve the living and learning experience for the campus community.  Please visit https://www.elon.edu/u/diversity-inclusion/ for more information on Diversity, Inclusion, and Global Engagement at Elon, the Inclusive Community Team, and bias reporting and response processes.
