Earning Multiple Undergraduate Degrees
A student may earn more than one undergraduate degree either consecutively or concurrently provided the degrees are not alike, e.g., not two A.B.s or two B.S.s, etc. One degree with multiple majors (e.g., two majors that are both A.B.s) is addressed in the preceding section. Elon will award no more than three undergraduate degrees. Students completing multiple degrees at the same time will be awarded multiple diplomas at the time of commencement.
For two degrees, a student must meet the following requirements:

earn a minimum of 154 total credit hours, including a minimum of 56 hours at the 300/400 level
- complete the 56 hours of common core to be used toward both degrees
- meet all degree and university graduation requirements for both degree programs
- earn a minimum of 80 semester hours at Elon
- the two degrees must be different (e.g., A.B. and B.S.)
For three degrees, a student must meet the following requirements:
- earn a minimum of 174 total credit hours, including a minimum of 72 hours at the 300/400 level
- complete the 56 hours of common core to be used toward all degrees
- meet all degree and university graduation requirements for all degree programs
- earn a minimum of 96 semester hours at Elon
- all three degrees must be different (e.g., A.B., B.S., and B.F.A.)
Students may not earn the same major in multiple degree categories (AB and BS in Chemistry, AB and BFA in Theatre, etc.).
Students who meet graduation requirements for one degree may participate in the commencement activities for that degree and apply for readmission at Elon to earn a second and/or third degree. Once a student has completed all requirements for the second degree and/or third degree, they must reapply for graduation in order for the Registrar’s Office to confirm completion of requirements and order the diploma.
Students may not participate in more than one undergraduate commencement ceremony.
Students who have completed the major requirements for multiple degrees, but have not satisfied the additional credit hour or 300-400 level credit hours specified above, will receive only one baccalaureate degree and must select the primary major for which they will receive a bachelor’s degree. In this case and consistent with the policy on multiple majors, all completed majors will be posted to the transcript and diploma.
It is the student’s responsibility to be familiar with the preceding requirements for earning more than one degree.
