COR 329 In Search of Fair Division

Is it possible to develop a method for determining election results that is always fair? Answering this simple question is anything but a simple task. In fact, fairness is a complex idea, and it applies to numerous areas of our life. In this course, students will explore and apply concepts from voting theory, fairness criteria, and apportionment. Meeting objectives of this course requires you to combine what is learned from previous courses, related readings, and class activities to address novel questions of fairness regarding social representation in numerous settings. Essay writing and a final comprehensive writing project will complement simulations, presentations, short films, and role playing. Upper level students interested in a range of disciplines including sociology, history, political science, mathematics, and business will find this course of lasting benefit. All interested students are encouraged to enroll.
