NRS 240 Pharmacology for Nursing Practice

This course will introduce the essential elements of pharmacology and safe and effective medication administration. Students will determine how individual patient factors affect pharmacologic decision-making and explore responsibility and accountability for the rights of medication administration within the scope of nursing practice.

  1. 1. Demonstrate an understanding of pharmacology, pharmacotherapeutics, pharmacokinetics, and
    pharmacodynamics across the lifespan.
  2. 2. Describe indications, contraindications, side effects and dosing for commonly used drugs.
  3. 3. Classify the therapeutic effects and adverse effects of these drugs on each client.
  4. 4. Promote client safety and prevent medical errors
  5. 5. Adhere to the principles of “the rights of medication administration”.
