ART 3640 PHOTOGRAPHY: PINHOLE TO PIXEL

This course explores the technical and conceptual principles of photography from past to present by examining the early historical analog to the current digital photographic practices. Through lectures, readings, and hands-on assignments, the course will focus on the rise of specific photographic processes and movements, and follow related aesthetical and theoretical issues. Projects will emphasize the formation of individual solutions to a given photographic problem and the presentation of student work for discussion and criticism. Students will complete a series of carefully structured assignments, leading to a written proposal for a self-directed final project.
