COR 4510 VIRTUES AND VICES

Lust, Greed, Gluttony, Pride, Envy, Anger, Sloth—are they “deadly sins” that rob humans of power and happiness or are they the very spice of life? Temperance, Justice, Wisdom, Fortitude, Faith, Hope, Love—are they the virtues that guarantee real joy and success or are they self-limiting ideals that keep people down? This course’s exploration of the Virtues and Vices will use art, literature, film, and music as well as materials from religious studies, philosophy, and history to examine this fascinating subject and the questions it raises. This course is writing intensive. Open to students in the third or fourth year of study.
