PHL 3630 RAP, RACE, GENDER, AND PHILOSOPHY

In this course, we will use philosophy to critically examine rap and its history to ask how this musical form emerges from, portrays, offers us insight into, and influences race and gender relations in the United States. Ultimately, we will focus on the questions: “what kind of world are we creating?”; what kind “do we aim to create?”; and to what extent rap does/can help us or hinder us in creating that kind of world?
