MGT 3100 FOUNDATIONS OF BUSINESS ANALYTICS

This course focuses on the process of transforming data into insights for solving real-world business problems. The course takes a multi-level approach in generating insights using descriptive, predictive and prescriptive analytics. Using descriptive analytics students will apply visual analytics to understand trends and patterns.  The focus of predictive analytics will be on the use of machine learning to find the likelihood of future outcomes based on historical data. Then, using prescriptive analytics students will answer "what should" be done to optimize strategies given a set of constraints.

This course will serve as an introductory class in the Business Analytics discipline to provide either a foundation as the discipline as a whole for all business majors or as an entry point class for analytics majors.

Course Outcomes

  1. 1- Understand and apply advanced data visualization techniques
  2. 2- Apply supervised machine learning techniques
  3. 3- Perform optimization analysis and Monte Carlo simulation, and
  4. 4- Use a popular programming language (e.g., Python) to solve business analytics problems
