REL 2920 APPROACHES TO THE STUDY OF RELIGION

This course is designed to orient students interested in religious studies to the broader landscape of the field. In the process, students will be challenged to examine and compare a variety of methodological approaches to the study of religion. This course will also train students in advanced research and writing in the field.

  1. Students will recognize and describe the breadth and diversity of religious traditions and/or other constructions of “religion."
  2. Students will formulate substantive, critical questions about issues within the study of religion.
  3. Students will employ appropriate approaches to pursuing those questions.
  4. Students will craft coherent and well-supported arguments.
  5. Students will articulate the relevance of Religious Studies to understanding and/or addressing questions and problems that face our world.
