SPT 3100 TRANSITIONS STRATEGIES IN SPORT MANAGEMENT

This course helps Sport Management majors prepare for the SPT 3985 internship, as well as co-ops, summer jobs and permanent employment. Students will develop strategies to achieve career goals, investigate critical issues in the workplace, develop a resume and cover letter, learn how to network and interview effectively. This course is recommended for Sport Management sophomores, juniors and seniors. This course does not count toward any Sport Management major or minor requirements and does not apply to any core curriculum requirements.

  1. By the end of this course students will be able to:
    • Reflect about career goals and devise strategies for achieving them.
  2. • Research their targeted goals – i.e., living in a specific city, the nature of the job market in a particular sector of employment, graduate schools in their area of interest.
  3. • Hone their resume-creating skills and craft appropriate cover letters, learn about the specifics of the sport industry, including realities of working in sport, and enhance networking and interviewing skills.
  4. • Master the use of Elon Job Network and sport-specific tools like Teamwork Online and PBEO.com.
  5. • Understand the purpose of a budget
