Psychological and sociological effects of acute, chronic, progressive, psychiatric, terminal, traumatic, and congenital medical problems on the client, family, and therapist; the relationship of race, religion, ethnic background, gender and sexuality, medical beliefs, and language to client/-therapist interactions and to the well-being of the client; communication skills used with clients, families, and colleagues; and use of self-awareness to enhance the therapist’s therapeutic presence. Emphasis is on clinical application with active student involvement
