DAN 4420 AFRICAN DANCE IV
This course is designed for dance program students who have met the advanced level requirements for African dance. The primary focus is developing technique and artistry as a professional dancer. Attention will be placed on increasing technical skills, working with a choreographer and accompanist to mount a West African dance work, and developing a practice of performance. The class will conclude with a final on-campus performance as well as other small performances and lecture demonstrations in the Elon community and surrounding area.

- The student will have the opportunity to work with a dance professional in a setting where a performance piece is the goal of the course
The student will learn how to conduct themselves in a professional rehearsal process and create healthy collaboration with other artists.
The student will learn dance vocabulary/phrasing and work on improving their ability to retain movement
The student will improve their performance ability as coached by the choreographer – this also includes technical achievement of the movement, the expressivity of the movement, and character development as deemed by the choreographer
