GBL 2390 BRAZIL: CULTURE AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

This course explores the dynamic and vibrant cultures of Brazil through literature, history, religion, and community-based projects. We will learn about Brazilian music, dance, religion, and the creation of capoeira (martial arts) and carnival. We will work with community organizations in Salvador and Rio de Janeiro. And we will journey toward the Amazon to learn more about indigenous Brazilian cultures. While there, we will work with community groups on local efforts to preserve and protect the environment and Amazonian way(s) of life. Along the way, we will learn a little Portuguese, meet local peoples and immerse ourselves in the pulsating cultures of Brazil.
