EDU4510 Teaching Diverse Learners

This course is designed to prepare teachers and those interested in education to work effectively in today’s inclusive classrooms. The course is divided into three sections: Theoretical foundations for teaching diverse learners, critical self-reflection, and types of diversities. Types of diversities will be the central focus of the course and will include five major topics: 1) Psychosocial Diversity- mental health, substance abuse, domestic violence; 2) racial, cultural and ethnic diversity and the role of multicultural education; 3) linguistic diversity and the needs of students for whom English is a second language; 4) socio-economic diversity and the effects of poverty on learning; and 5) other diversities, such as religion and gender.
