GBL 2335 Art and Revolt: Engaging Revolutionary Spain

This course explores the rich cultural history of Spain and the development of art movements as catalysts for change. Open to all majors, it will allow students to gain an understanding about how art has responded to and helped shape the political landscape of the region throughout the ages. From Spain’s historical geographic position as a borderland between Christian and Islamic theology to the resistance of fascism following the breakout of the Spanish Civil War, art has played a central role in defining Spain’s history. This immersive course will engage students by exploring modern day Spain and the vast art collections in some of the most renowned museums in the world. Students will use this experience as a springboard to create their own expressive works, understand the power of visual art, and to develop an understanding of new cultural perspectives.

This course will require students to complete the pre-departure GBL 1335 fall term course. Please note GBL:1335 is currently under review.
