The Preschool Add-on Licensure Track is only available for undergraduates who are already majoring in a teacher licensure preparation program, such as Elementary Education. 

Program Outcomes

The outcomes expected of students who have completed the Preschool Add-on Licensure Track are drawn from three sets of standards for teacher licensure programs: (a) the NC Standards for Birth-Kindergarten (NCBK) Candidates (focusing only on the preschool period); (b) the NC Professional Teaching Standards (NCPTS); and (c) the Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (InTASC).
1. Preschool Add-on Licensure Track candidates will articulate knowledge of typical as well as atypical patterns of development in the preschool period [NCBK 1; InTASC 1]
2. Preschool Add-on Licensure Track candidates will demonstrate skills in building partnerships that support children’s learning with families and community members [NCBK 2; NCPTS 2; InTASC 1, 10]
3. Preschool Add-on Licensure Track candidates will identify agencies, legislation, policies, rights, and resources relevant for children with and without disabilities and their families, and articulate the need for quality early education [NCBK 3]
4. Preschool Add-on Licensure Track candidates will use a variety of appropriate, ongoing, assessment methods to plan, implement, and evaluate learning experiences that are responsive to individual children’s needs and build on their strengths [NCBK 4; NCPTS 4; InTASC 2, 3, 6]
5. Preschool Add-on Licensure Track candidates will create and adapt learning environments and integrated learning experiences that facilitate development across domains, and that are responsive to children’s socio-cultural contexts [NCBK 5; NCPTS 2, 3, 4; InTASC 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8]
6. Preschool Add-on Licensure Track candidates will exhibit professional dispositions to include: articulating the value of diversity, demonstrating the ability to be reflective, and taking responsibility for student learning [NCPTS 1, 5; InTASC 9, 10]
