ART3650 Photography: Invention and Construction

This course will focus on the creation of visual language in photography and explore its role in clarifying the meaning and the intent of the Image-maker. Emphasis will be placed on strengthening students' technical and conceptual understandings of contemporary photography as a means of artistic self-expression. Examination of important practitioners of the medium and discourse pertaining to critical topics in current photography will provide students with the insight needed to undertake projects that expand the possibilities of the medium. Students will complete a series of thematic assignments, leading to a written proposal for a self-directed final project.
