DTS1015 Acting Technique

This course is specifically designed to meet the needs of Drama & Theatre Studies majors and Theatre Arts Minors. Applying a variety of acting techniques to scenes and monologues, students will build a foundation of acting skills through both theory and practice. Students will develop critical and analytical skills by responding to live performances.

Theatre Arts minors can choose to take either DTS1015 or ACT1125: Acting for Non-Majors as their acting requirement. Drama and Theatre Studies majors MUST take DTS1015 for their acting requirement.

Course Outcomes

  1. Understand the history of and articulate the differences between major theoretical approaches to acting techniques of the 20th century
  2. Apply acting technique to text for the purposes of script analysis
  3. Apply acting technique to text for the purpose of creating an original performance
  4. Apply theories of acting technique to live performance for the purposes of analysis and critique
  5. Demonstrate through embodied performance an understanding of different approaches to acting technique
