NRS2400 Pharmacology for Nursing Practice
This course will introduce the essential elements of pharmacology and safe and effective medication administration. Students will determine how individual patient factors affect pharmacologic decision-making and explore responsibility and accountability for the rights of medication administration within the scope of nursing practice.
Prerequisite
A grade of C or better is required in all prerequisites: BIO 1112/1113, BIO 2312/2313, BIO 2412/2413, PSY 2100, WHE 3240, BIO 2122 or ABSN student status.
Corequisite
To be taken with NRS 2100, NRS 2200, and NRS 2300
Course Outcomes
- 1. Demonstrate an understanding of pharmacology, pharmacotherapeutics, pharmacokinetics, and
pharmacodynamics across the lifespan. - 2. Describe indications, contraindications, side effects and dosing for commonly used drugs.
- 3. Classify the therapeutic effects and adverse effects of these drugs on each client.
- 4. Promote client safety and prevent medical errors
- 5. Adhere to the principles of “the rights of medication administration”.
