OLE1190 Introduction to Adventure Based Counseling
This class will focus on the use of outdoor experiential education activities in counseling with individuals, groups and families. This introductory course is designed to provide the student with a theoretical, philosophical and experiential understanding of outdoor experiential education and its application to counseling. Course content includes the theoretical and philosophical foundations of adventure-based counseling, a discourse on the safe and appropriate use of outdoor activities with various populations, facilitation of adventure-based counseling, and use of these activities in assessment and intervention.
Course Outcomes
- ● Demonstrate an understanding of how outdoor experiential education can be utilized in therapy with individuals, groups, families and special populations.
- ● Discuss ethical and safety concerns related to the use of Adventure Therapy.
- ● Exemplify a level of familiarity with adventure therapy, including the history of the field as well as modern day application.
