POL3220 State and Local Government and Politics
State and local politics affect our daily lives in ways that we don’t often realize; from trash pick-up to traffic laws and from public schools to parks and recreation, the policies of state and local governments are personally and frequently impactful. To capture the breadth of that impact, we will investigate the structures and institutions of state and local governments; explore their budgets and oversight; and examine their unique politics, economies, and cultures. In doing so, we will also gain the ability to think thoroughly and critically about the politics of states, counties, and municipalities in the United States.
