Transfer Credits
Upon the approval of the Graduate Director of the MHE program and the University Registrar, a student enrolled in the M.A. in Higher Education program may be permitted to transfer six semester hours of appropriate graduate credit from a graduate program in a fully accredited institution. For transfer credits, grades earned at another graduate school must be at least a “B,” and the credit must not be more than five calendar years old at the time of degree completion at Elon. Only a course that has not been used to fulfill degree requirements can be proposed for transfer credit. No graduate credit will be allowed for excess credits completed in an undergraduate classification in any institution. No graduate credit will be allowed for field-based work. To be eligible for transfer, courses must be taken at a regionally accredited institution. Students seeking to transfer credits to the M.A. in Higher Education program should consult the MHE Graduate Director for guidance on the transfer credit approval process. Requests to transfer credits must be made prior to the first semester of enrollment. Students will not receive a refund for the course requirement fulfilled with transfer credits.
Enrollment Status
After a formal application to the MHE program, students may be allowed to enroll in one of the following categories:
• Regular admission to Elon’s MHE program is granted to students who meet all the established requirements for entrance. The Application for Graduate Admission form is required for all degree-seeking students.
• Special admission is for the non-degree-seeking student who has completed a baccalaureate degree program and is interested in taking courses for transfer credit. An MHE Special Student Application form is required for admission. Students enrolled in the special admission category who want to pursue the graduate degree must complete the application process for regular admission. Special admission students can take up to six hours of approved MHE coursework.
