CSC 3427 Cloud Security

Students will design, deploy, and defend secure cloud architectures. In this interactive course, students will apply industry-standard best practices to secure the full software development lifecycle—from initial coding to production deployment. Beyond technical implementation, students will critically analyze the strategic trade-offs between cloud-native and traditional on-premises security models. Through intensive hands-on labs using leading cloud platforms, students will gain the practical skills necessary to architect robust network, application, and data security solutions.

  1. Students will become familiar with common security patterns in the cloud.
  2. Students will design and implement secure network architectures employing segmentation and firewalls in line with best practices.
  3. Students will understand and use multiple options for cloud services - virtual machines, containers, and serverless computing options.
  4. Students will implement common security patterns for applications and APIs utilizing encryption, identity management and edge protection.
  5. Students will understand DevOps technologies for deploying service based applications into a cloud environment.
  6. Students will use and become familiar with Amazon Web Services (AWS) environment and services.
  7. Students will strengthen their troubleshooting and debugging skills.
