EGR 3120 Machine Design
This course is designed to give students an overview of machine design. This includes an introduction to failure theory and analysis, which will include fatigue failure, surface failure, and static failure. In addition, students will be introduced to mechanisms such as linkages and cams. Design case studies will be used to teach students topics that include shafts, coupling, bearings, and lubrication. The course will also delve into gears, fasteners, and springs.
- Understand the mechanical design process and material selection.
- Understand the theory behind common ways in which machines fail.
- Be able to design machines which use common mechanisms, including linkages, cams, shafts.
- Appropriately select materials and fasteners for your designs.
