LAW 829 Prisoners' Rights

This course examines imprisonment of convicted offenders with a focus on the government's LAW 728 power to punish by imprisonment, the limits of that power, and the responsibilities the government assumes when exercising it. Primary emphasis will be on topics related to prisoner civil rights litigation including the history of prisoner litigation, procedural matters, prisoner rights, conditions of confinement, and access to courts. merging topics in current prisoner litigation will be addressed.
