GBL 257 COSTA RICA'S CULTURE, ECOTOURISM, AND SPORTS
This course examines Costa Rica’s culture, society, ecotourism, and sports. International travel will be an essential part of the course. Students will prepare by learning about the points of interest we will visit and about the country’s characteristics (history, society, cultures, the economy, challenges, education, healthcare, ecotourism, sports, etc.). Additionally, during the course, students will be engaged in hands-on experiences with a local amateur football team and a high-school level soccer team. Students will also learn about conservation projects to protect the Green Turtle in the South Pacific, and about ecotourism ventures that attract tourists but are sustainable as well. Activities will include: visits to cultural and ecotourism sites; opportunities to speak with amateur participants in sports such as soccer and football; and observation of and interaction with the local culture. Our course will invite comparisons with U.S. practices, conditions, and characteristics
