This course will introduce students to the fundamentals of fluid statics and dynamics including integral and differential control volume analysis using conservation equations, application of dimensional analysis, dynamic similitude, steady-state laminar viscous flow, and turbulent flow.

    Determine the forces on plane and curved submerged surfaces.
    Analyze fluid flow systems by the control volume approach.
    Use the conservation of mass to analyze flow systems
    Determine the pressure drop in a pipe resulting from viscous or turbulent effects.
    Understand the use of dimensional analysis to solve problems
    Understand the origins of the Bernoulli equation and its application to flow problems
    Become familiar with the Navier Stokes equations and apply them to simplified cases
    Become familiar with boundary layers and drag coefficients
    Understand flow in open and closed conduits
