FRE 348 CULTURAL SHIFTS IN FRANCE THROUGH MUSIC

In this course, students will explore a specific topic related to France and the Francophone World via musical, literary, historical, cultural and socio‐political texts as well as film and media clips. The culminating capstone project entails a collaborative creation and public performance of original and existing texts in French set to music that students may compose or choose themselves in order to narrate/interpret the (hi)stories they learned. Students will hone skills in language, textual analysis, and cultural commentary. Enrolled students are expected to take an active role in the final production, either as performers, technical and artistic support, or by taking on other necessary duties. No prior music or production experience is required. Taught in French.
