Spanish A.B. with Teacher Licensure

 

A major in Spanish requires that students complete the following trajectory. Students must move forward after completing the requirements at a given level.

 

Spanish majors are required to study abroad for at least one semester in a program that has been approved by the university and the department. The study abroad semester may be completed at any point in the above trajectory and includes the following requirements. Additional credits from abroad may be applied to general studies requirements, another major, or a minor as appropriate, or used as elective credit for graduation. Consult with the Spanish section head regarding where experimental courses numbered 37XX can be counted with approval in the major.

 

A Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Spanish with Teacher Licensure requires the completion of the Elon Core Curriculum as well as the Major Requirements listed below.

Study Abroad Preparation and Reflection: 4 sh

The sequence of courses, WLC 3010, WLC 3020, WLC 3030, is designed to help you prepare, reflect on, and process your required study abroad experience in a Spanish-speaking country. You must enroll in the 1-credit WLC 3010 the semester BEFORE you study abroad, the 1-credit WLC 3020 (online) WHILE you are studying abroad, and the 2-credit WLC 3030 the semester AFTER you return from study abroad.

Study Abroad Electives: 8-12 sh

A maximum of 3 courses (12 sh) taught in Spanish can be counted from the semester study abroad. Courses must be pre-approved by the Spanish section and the Registrar.

An internship in Spanish is strongly encouraged, and up to 4 sh of internship credit can count as elective credit for the Spanish major. Internship must have pre-approval and a faculty mentor on campus.
