GBL 1600 PREP SEMINAR FOR TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS: CULTURE AND CUSTOME IN THE GERMAN ECONOMY

This course helps prepare students academically, interculturally, linguistically and logistically for their short-term global experience. The seminar is offered on campus in the semester prior to the 4 sh global engagement experience. Completion of the pre-departure preparatory seminar is required for participation in GBL 2600 TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS: CULTURE AND CUSTOM IN THE GERMAN ECONOMY.

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of introductory German sufficient for basic travel needs and elemental communication skills for business encounters.
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of elements of German business culture (linguistic, social, cultural, etc.) and systems (e.g., economic labor, work, ethics, etc.), especially how they compare to those in the United States.
  3. Reflect upon how cultural biases may affect perspectives of other cultures, especially German culture.
