GBL 1910 ALTERNATIVE BREAKS: PREPARATION, EXPERIENCE AND REFLECTION

Participants on an Alternative Break will engage in direct service while interacting intentionally with members of the local community. This course will allow participants to be better prepared for these experiences and to process them afterwards. Participants will have a well-rounded understanding of their program location and will examine how the social issue of their program is displayed in that location. Participants will research and write about their social issue and location and have discussions about cross-cultural communication, effective service, and group dynamics. This will be an active, participatory course where conversation will be driven by participant feedback. Credit also includes active participation in the off-campus experience itself and post-experience meetings for processing and reflection. Enrollment by permission of instructor.
