COR 3900 EXAMINING IDENTITIES: HOLLYWOOD AND SPORT CULTURE

This course examines sport movies as a distinct category of film that communicates identities, cultural ideologies, values, and stereotypes.  Selected films will be studied in terms of their social and historical context and how social class, race, gender, sexuality, and other identities are depicted. Readings will support and draw on rhetorical theory, social critical theory, and cinema studies to examine how writers and film makers shape, reinforce, and sometimes challenge cultural norms and identities through the story line of sport.
