DAN 3240 DANCE AND GENDER

How does dance reflect and affect our notions of gender identity? This course examines gender, sexuality and power and how choreography reflects personal identity, history and social movements. Further, this course investigates the role gender plays in dance as both a social art and a performing art, particularly through the lens of the performer, audience, and choreographer. Students will be engaged in reading a variety of texts (both written and visual representations of text) and will be asked to disseminate and challenge commonly held notions of dance and gender.
