PCS 1210 INTRODUCTION TO CONFLICT MEDIATION

In this course, students will be taught the basic skills in a six-step mediation process. In mediation an outside person who maintains neutrality and withholds judgment helps two people in a conflict situation to find their own solutions. This course will cover the five different styles of resolving conflicts, listening skills for mediation, how to discover the underlying cause for the conflict. Through role-plays, students will practice the role of the mediation as well as experience the mediation as a disputant. At the end of the course, there will be an evaluation of skills and an opportunity for students to use their skills at the Alamance County Dispute Settlement Center.
